One of the questions that I’m frequently asked is how I go about planning my novels (and what inspires me to write them). The answer is pretty simple: music.
Ever since I began writing as a kid, I’ve used music to write. As I write, I may add or delete songs, depending on how the plot and characters develop and change. Because I'm a pantser, I tend to switch out songs a lot, because what fit in the beginning may not always fit by the end. Most of the music in my playlist either inspired a scene or a character long before they actually appeared in the novel. When I finish my first draft, I’m left with what is basically a musical score for my book.
The playlist is in no particular order, though one day soon, I hope to remedy that so you an sort of get a feel for how the story unfolds.
Currently, I am working on my playlist for Book 2 in the trilogy. It's quite extensive at the moment and needs to be cut down due to edits I've recently made.
I hope you enjoy.
I love coming up with idea for my characters. Since I can't draw to save my life, I piddle around in an app call Doll Design. It's additive. It sucks time away from my writing and reading, but it's so much fun. Here are just a few I've come up with. Yes, I know. Some look like they could be from Lord of the Rings. If only I could draw.
